Beneath the Surface was inspired by my time free diving. When my mask sits half above and half below the water, I get this split view. Sunlight and sky in one eye, and deep ocean in the other. That moment always stays with me, and this painting is my attempt to capture it.
On the surface, it is just water and light. But to me, it represents perspective. In life, we often only see what is right in front of us, but there is always more happening beneath. When we slow down and pay attention, there is a whole world we might have missed.
This painting reminds me to look deeper. In nature, in people, and within myself. What we see at first glance is only part of the story.
